Sport Climbing 101
Learn how to rock climb outdoors
Foundational climbing skills such as knot tying, belaying, rappelling, anchors, climbing techniques, and more!
This course introduces gym climbers or newer outdoor rock climbers to the tools and techniques necessary for sport climbing outdoors. While no lead climbing experience is necessary, all participants must know how to tie-in to the rope, belay and have the ability to top-rope 5.8 in the gym or outside.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Learn how to belay a lead climber outdoors
Demonstrate how to safely lead climb a bolt-protected sport-climb
Construct efficient and secure anchor systems
Develop skills to build efficient and secure anchor systems, as well as, how to clean bolted anchors
Compare risks and hazards associated with climbing in the gym to sport climbing outdoors

Refine Outdoor Climbing Movement and Skills
BUILD OFF SPORT CLIMBING 101 AND GAIN EFFICIENCY AT CLIMBING MOVEMENT AND SPORT CLIMBING ANCHORING TECHNIQUES
This course is open to participants who are in the process of learning to lead climb on bolted sport routes and want to improve their movement and their anchoring systems. Spend a day at the crag with an AMGA Rock Guide refining the skills you learned on Sport Climbing 101.
